More information about depression
The NHS states that:
"Depression is more than simply feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days."
Depression is not trivial. That is my first message, it is not a sign of being weak or needing to pull yourself together, man-up or just simply snap out of it.
Depression is real, but, with the right support and treatment anyone can go on to make a full recovery. People with a family history are more likely to experience depression themselves. Often it is that major life events trigger episodes, such as loss and bereavement, childbirth, losing your job etc.
Do you feel:
- Sad and emotional.
- Numb, have a lack of motivation, be lethargic or have lost interest in things that you used to enjoy.
- You wish to be left alone, hide away or stay in bed.
- Tiredness although you have problems sleeping.
- No appetite, or in fact you are eating for comfort.
- Stressed or frustrated.
- Irritable or even aggressive.
- Can't cope.
- Unable to see any 'light at the end of the tunnel'.
- Consider what the point of living is.
- Loss of sex drive.
- Aches and pains.
Whilst the magnitude of the symptoms varies from mild to severe, it is important to seek the advice of your GP. The condition can be treated both with medication and hypnotherapy.
During an episode of depression and low mood, it is inadvisable to:
- Drink
- Smoke
Some people can benefit from making changes such as getting more exercise, cutting down or stopping drinking and smoking and reading self-help books and eating more healthy and joining support groups.
What now for my depression?
As a complimentary therapy, hypnotherapy works to change the way that the client considers life in the subconscious. I work with the Human Given principles to make a break in a spiral of worry and low mood.
If you are depressed and life-style changes are not working, inform your GP that you are going to be working with a clinical hypnotherapist who works with the Human Givens theories in order to beat depression.
Depression will not last forever. There is always sun after rain and it doesn't rain forever even if we think it does at the time...
